TUBURAN, CEBU- On the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Second Sunday of Advent, December 8, 2019, the Montfort Missionaries - Philippines rekindle its itinerant mission in the Archdiocese of Cebu. The last itinerant mission in the Archdiocese was in 2011 for the formation and promotion of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) which was the thrust of the Archdiocese. After that mission the Montfort Missionaries continued their presence in the Archdiocese by helping in the different parishes, follow up of the previous mission areas, and the continues propagation of the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. In the second quarter of last year, the desire to continue the itinerant mission in Cebu was initiated but this time it will be a parish renewal through the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Initial proposal was made to the Rev. Fr. Aloysius Alojipan, Parish priest of San Guillermo Parish in Dalaguete, Cebu. Though the parish priest was willing to have the itinerant mission but because the Parish Plan for 2018 was already approved, it was difficult to insert the itinerant mission in the parish program that year, so instead, he allowed us to conduct a preparation for total consecration to the members of the different mandated organizations in the parish and by December of 2018 they made their consecration. The itinerant mission will be included in the annual program of the parish for 2019 but unfortunately, it was put on hold because there will be a change of assignments for all the clergy in the whole Diocese by May 2019. Fresh from their new assignments, the clergy of the Archdiocesan Shrine of the St. Anthony de Padua in Tuburan, Cebu, invited the Montfort Missionaries through Rev. Fr. Rene Bustillo, SMM (the head of the SMM Cebu Team to do the itinerant mission in the parish). The town of Tuburan is in North West mountainous part of Cebu, it is in the boundary of the towns of Carmen, Danao, Catmon, Sogod and Tabulan. It is a four-hour drive from the Mission House. Out of the 33 barangays, Seven barangays on the east part of the parish were given as part of the mission areas namely Kalangahan, Kamansi, Kaorasan, Bankito, Tomugpa, Kalunsing and Amayuga. The main source of income of the people is farming and charcoal-making. The launching mass was presided by Msgr. Jerome Narvasa with Rev. Fr. Peter Monteran- Team Moderator, Rev. Fr. Wilfredo, Rev. Fr. Ceferino Elleccion and Fr. Rene as concelebrants. Two scholastics who are on their pastoral year program in Cebu will be assisting Fr. Rene in the mission. They are Bro. John Michael Uy, SMM and Bro. Samuel Gonzales, SMM. The mass started at 8:00 a.m. in the main church and before the final blessing, Fr. Peter introduced the missionaries, blessed the Mission Cross brought by the people from the mission area, and mission sending. After the mass in the main parish, the missionaries and the people, together with the mission cross, convoyed to the Chapel of San Isidro Labrador in Brgy. Kalangahan and by 10:00 a.m. launching mass, presided by Fr. Rene. After the mass a meal was shared by the people with some mission partners and collaborators, TTJers, AMQAH members, and the family of Bro. John Michael, SMM. We thank God for another mission a la Montfort and we pray for the Cebu Mission Team and the people in the mission area and ask God's blessings for a grace-filled mission through the loving intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, for the glory of GOD ALONE!
Rev. Fr. Federick Yumang, SMM
